World Thinking Day is a special day for young women and girls around the world to celebrate their friendship, sisterhood, and empowerment. It is observed every year on February 22, the birthday of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the founders of the Scout and Guide movement. The theme for this year’s World Thinking Day is “Our World, Our Thriving Future”, which focuses on creating a world that is inclusive and full of opportunities for every girl to thrive and succeed.
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) organizes various activities and events for World Thinking Day, such as webinars, workshops, games, and challenges. The aim is to raise awareness and funds for the development and empowerment of 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries. WAGGGS also encourages its members to learn about different cultures and issues affecting girls and women around the world, and to take action to make a positive difference.
One of the highlights of World Thinking Day 2024 is the launch of the new WAGGGS Global Programme Framework, which outlines the core values and outcomes of the Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting experience. The framework is based on four pillars: Leadership, Wellbeing, Diversity and Inclusion, and Global Citizenship. It also provides guidance and resources for Girl Guide and Girl Scout leaders to design and deliver quality programmes that meet the needs and interests of girls and young women.
World Thinking Day is a day to celebrate the achievements and potential of girls and young women, and to inspire them to become leaders and change-makers in their communities and beyond. It is also a day to express gratitude and solidarity with their sisters in the global Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting movement, and to reaffirm their commitment to the values and vision of WAGGGS.
