Donald Trump calls himself "Proud Political Dissident"

Former President Donald Trump addressed conservative activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), delivering a fiery speech that captured attention. During this year’s CPAC event, Trump declared himself a “proud political dissident” and painted an apocalyptic vision of the future.

In his address, Trump used religious imagery to emphasize his campaign message. He referred to the upcoming presidential election in November as “judgment day” and positioned himself as a savior against the leadership of President Biden. Trump warned of impending doom under a potential second term for Biden.

Last year, at the same event, Trump had delivered a memorable speech where he warned of a third world war, claimed to be his supporters’ “retribution,” and vowed to “obliterate the deep state.” His 2024 CPAC speech continued this theme, with lines such as “Trump was right about everything” and “The only crime I have ever committed is defending America from those who want to destroy it.”

As Trump addressed CPAC, voters in South Carolina—where he leads the state’s former governor Nikki Haley by around 30 points—headed to the polls in their Republican primary. The political landscape remains charged, and Trump’s words continue to resonate with his base.
