NAVI MUMBAI, March 2: Avtar Saini, a key figure in the development of the iconic Pentium processor and former head of Intel India, has tragically passed away. He was killed in a cycling accident on Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai early Wednesday morning.

Mr. Saini, 68, was cycling with a group when he was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle. Despite wearing a helmet and safety equipment, he sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle has been apprehended by police and is facing charges relating to the incident.

During his career at Intel, Saini played a pivotal role in the development of several groundbreaking microprocessors, including the Intel 386, Intel 486, and the Pentium series. After retiring from Intel, Saini was an avid cyclist and advocate for road safety.
